At St. Maarten, it is mandatory to apply for insurance for travel entry. This travel insurance plan is called the “St. Maarten visitor protection plan”.

This advanced travel protection plan is tailormade by tourism boards, especially for travelers coming during this pandemic. In case you test positive for COVID-19 during your stay in St. Maarten. This is travel insurance plan has been already started on 11 January 2021.

Where and When to purchase a Covid-19 travel insurance plan?

For the purchase of travel insurance for St.Maarten travel entry, you have to first submit the EHAS form and get approval. EHAS is a mandatory health form that is available on The mandatory EHAS form should be applied before your arrival date. On the last step of the EHAS form, you’ll be asked to enter your payment details for the insurance. The payment with a credit card is not charged until you’ve been approved to enter St. Maarten. The insurance is to be purchased within 72 hours before your departure after your EHAS form has been approved. Note: Only ST. MAARTEN VISITORS PROTECTION PLAN is the only travel insurance plan that is approved. For the travel entry into St.Marten or if you transit by traveling to other islands from the St. Maarten airport.

Why can’t I purchase other travel insurance plans?

In case of a sudden COVID-19 outbreak in St. Maarten, the local medical providers won’t have time to deal with foreign insurers and the many different types of policy conditions. Therefore, the insurance system is centralized and all visitors can be assisted instantly and won’t have many if any, out-of-pocket expenses. Note: Another most important point that you must be aware of is that most foreign insurers don’t cover quarantine costs. Even if you test positive and tend to restrict COVID-19 coverage and when the CDC or your country’s Public Health Department issues a bit of negative travel advice for St. Maarten.

How much does it cost and what validity period?

Ages 0 -14 Children up to & including age 14 are charged a flat premium of $10 for stays not exceeding 180 days Ages 0 -14 Children up to & including age 14 are charged a flat premium of $10 for stays not exceeding 180 days Ages 76+ A flat premium of $30 is charged for stays not exceeding 180 days. Note: All premiums are non-refundable, unless you’ve made a duplicate purchase or if you canceled your trip to St. Maarten. The premium must be paid every time you re-enter St. Maarten.

The insurance is covered by a syndicate of locally licensed insurers, Guardian Group Fatum, Massy United Insurance Ltd., Ennia Caribe N.V. and reinsured by A++ AM Best Rated Reinsurers.

What to do in case of Covid -19 symptoms?

When you are in St. Maarten and if you have a fever, dry cough, shortness of breath, loss of smell or taste, or a combination of any of the known COVID-19 symptoms, you inform the guest relations at your respective hotel so that they can call the COVID-19 Call Center. If you’re not staying at a hotel, call the COVID-19 Call Center at 914. Based on your symptoms you will receive professional guidance and medical advice. Going to ER or a general practitioner with Covid-19 symptoms is not accepted.

Procedure for claiming travel insurance

Once you reach the helpline, the Assistance Center will notify the insurer directly to ensure that your case is handled accordingly. After this, you may be asked to complete a short online form to confirm your health status. You don’t have to go through the hassle of making a claim or asking for reimbursements. If you had to advance payment, you submit copies of the paid bills or payment receipt to [email protected].

Travel Insurance Plan by Sandals

Along with several additional benefits while you’re away.  Note A Travel Insurance Plan/Travel Protection Plan is bought on behalf of the visitor by the  Sandals Resorts reservations.This is made with the partnership with Tripmate TM. The coverage is applicable only during the visitor’s stay in the Sandals resort.

Coverage  for Travel Insurance Plan of Sandals Resorts

Expenses incurred as part of a treatment for illness, condition, and/or accident. Covid-19 is treated the same as any other sickness.
Medical Expenses:
Primary coverage for the cost incurred as part of the treatment for a Sickness or Injury incurred during the trip.
Pre-existing condition:
This plan does not exclude pre-existing conditions.
Ground Ambulance:
  Necessary transportation furnished by a professional ambulance company to and/or from a Hospital.
Travel Delay: 
 In the event, you are delayed due to quarantine, this reimburses additional accommodation, meal, and local transportation expenses incurred by you.

Note: Maximum benefit $200 PER DAY, PER PERSON AND UP TO US $2800

Medical Evacuation:
Cost of transport paid to closest Hospital capable of providing treatment for Sickness/Injury that is acute or life-threatening. Once treatment is received, transportation is provided to return home. Evacuation must be approved by the Program Medical Advisor.
