Whenever we talk about family-friendly activities, it is worth highlighting the fact that any moment spent together is an outstanding instrument for creating family experiences and memories. It also creates a sense of belonging and enjoyment for each other. Often, parents, do not know where to start with their kids. Sometimes people limit their time with their children by using only the same places and facilities, with little or simply no purpose in mind: to entertain the children.

LONG NIGHT OF MUSEUMS

National Museums Long Night is held in several cities across the country at the same time, spread throughout the entire island, although it is particularly relevant in the city of Santo Domingo, especially in the Colonial Zone, given a huge number of museums and cultural centers concentrated around the area.

You can visit them all for completely free during the Long Night of the Museums and at the same time, you can also participate in a wide range of cultural family-friendly activities, including the following: performing live music of various genres, plays, performances, dance, ballet, cultural exhibitions exclusively for that specific night, not forgetting a large number of activities for young people and children.

Each year the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Culture organizes an annual event, providing the opportunity for local citizens and tourists to attend over 20 free visits to museums as well as cultural centers.

 

 

National Zoological Park

Wander amongst creatures of all shapes and sizes at the Zoo of Santo Domingo to admire some of the many animal species to be encountered in the Dominican Republic=and enjoy this family-friendly activities that they present you.

Opened in 1975, it currently contains around eighty-two endemic and exotic species of animals and plants. It is home to a wide variety of exotic birds and mammals from around the globe, including the African lion, the guenon grise, the grey or green guenon tiger, and the Bengal tiger.

You will also observe a large diversity of reptiles, like the Hispaniolan boa, the North American crocodile, and the Mediterranean hicotea. The endangered Dominican solenodon mammal is also on display

The National Aquarium

The impressive National Aquarium, which covers a surface area of about 34,500 m² is located just a couple of minutes from the Columbus Lighthouse near the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

It was officially opened in 1990, the aquarium is one of the most popular venues for local residents and foreign visitors to Santo Domingo since it it offers a wide variety of family-friendly activities.

The premises include a grand total of ninety fish tanks in fresh and saltwater and seven ponds where one can admire all types of marine tropical fish, Hawksbill turtles, sharks, seahorses, parrot fish, trumpet fish, and many others.
